A great and well-written story about a rather sassy FMC's (I love her!) struggles with entitled, bloodist (aka racist) parliament 'nobles' and their petty schemes and attempts to challenge her decisions because she's 'so young' - and a woman, one can't help but think.
I haven't read any of Cyrus' other stories yet (but I will soon change that), so I can confidently say this works perfectly as a standalone story. Everything makes sense from start to finish even if you don't know anything else than what this story tells you about the fantasy realm it's set it.
The characters are great and diverse, the worldbuilding is enough to get an idea what the story is on about without crushing you, or boring you to death, over the course of the relatively short length of this novelette/short story.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and it made me want to check out the rest of Cyrus' stories even more than I wanted to check them out before I read this.
I can recommend this novelette/short story to anyone who loves fantasy with a noblesse oblige theme attributed to the hated underdog and the ruler, and a delightfully sassy and strong-willed FMC.
