Legacy: A Black Physician Reckons with Racism in Medicine by Uché Blackstock
medium-paced
5.0
I couldn't stop listening to Blackstock's audiobook recounting her journey as a black physician in academia and beyond. It hits on so many important topics. There's the systemic injustice that befalls black patients, and then there's the discrimination against black physicians.
It's eye opening in a whole new way even if I was already aware of these things. Blackstock's journey was exhausting to listen to, and I can't even imagine the stress of living through it all.
What I identified most with was the grief she had to deal with in her academic setting and especially her promotion. I'm a female professor, though white, and I can say with 500% certainty that the systemic issues described of academia are the truth.
Thank you to the author for this incredible memoir and work of nonfiction.
