Just as moving as the film, although a lot of things definitely worked better on screen than on page. The characters are all quite compelling, including the often criticized narrator which I think was an intriguing and deliberate choice since it calls to the difficult nature of the women's disposition. That is, even the best of men raised in Mennonite communities are deeply flawed in their perception of women. Mirim Toews sure knows how to write dialogue and I look forward to reading her other work.
