The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother by James McBride

4.0

Amazing memoir about McBride's family--his Jewish mother left her family behind, married two black men and raised a giant family in NYC. She was a fierce rebel as she sent her entire family through college, many through grad school, all as they hovered on the edge of poverty (both of her husbands died way too soon). Worth checking out, and a fairly quick read.
