Calamity by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

Calamity is sadly the last of the Reckoners series. This three book series was written so incredibly well, and I just want more!

With Prof out on the run having given into the darkness and accepting Regalia's plan, David finds himself bringing the team to Ildithia, a constantly moving city. With Tia also missing, David takes the informant place in the team, and he is now the one in control of how the missions go. He is bound and determined to turn Prof back onto the path of good, but will they be able to find out what Prof's fear is, and then successfully make him face it?

I seriously am going to be recommending this series to anyone interested in YA fantasy/sci-fi. I think that this series did not get enough love when it came out (or maybe I was just living under a rock). The way Sanderson writes is completely engaging and easy to read, and now I just want to get my hands on all of his work. I still couldn't guess exactly what was going to happen throughout this book, and was left reeling a little at the end. The ending to me did feel a little bit abrupt, not necessarily unsatisfying, but everything just happened so fast. But that could also be because I didn't want to believe that I was reading the last few pages of the story.

In this book I wanted more of the relationship between Megan and David. I felt like it was kind of a flippant relationship. I wanted to feel more of a connection to their....whatever they had between them, but I felt like it was kind of brushed off. If a guy feels so strongly for a girl that he does whatever he can to get her back, they better have a more in depth relationship! David helped Megan turn away from the darkness, yet their relationship doesn't feel real. They are supposed to be in their early 20's, yet it felt like their relationship belonged in the halls of a high school.

Besides this, I really did love this book. The suspense of the situation was done really well, it kept moving at a fast pace, and the characters are very likable. The idea of the whole story (which I know I mention in all of my reviews for these books) is so unique and captivating. I have loved getting to know the world and the characters and their story. I am really sad to read the final pages and leave this world, and I know it is a series I will be rereading in the future.
