The first half of this book was pretty slow, and I struggled to keep interested but the twist at the end of both acts was great! I’m still glad I read assassins blade first, if I had to go back in time for a bunch of character building right now I’d lose it. Dorian’s plot line discovering his magic and his continued friendship with Celaena is awesome to see, I hate it when authors cut that out because the love story ended. Chaol is….. on thin ice. I adore him, but he’s on probation for now. Plus, I doubt the author will make him the endgame love interest, there’s still 5 more books to go.
Also, the kings POV in the first one made him so much more all knowing and sinister in the first book…. In this one, it just made him look egotistical and short sighted.
Anyways, not my favorite book, but I did like that she FINALLY got to actually be a badass assassin in the second half of this one. For an infamous assassin, I expected there to be more action scenes where she doesn’t get stopped after 2 hits. But now that she’s being allowed to be as incredible as she’s been hyped up to be for three entire books (no I’m not bitter at all), I’m excited for the story to pick up in Heir of Fire.
