Cilka's Journey by Heather Morris

5.0

An important tribute to a brave soul. Heather Morris once again does a beautiful job as she tells the story of a resilient Jewish young woman following her survival at Auschwitz and sent to a prison camp in Siberia. An honest and heartbreaking novel.

One of the most beautiful moments is between Hannah and Cilka. Where Cilka’s internal strength and maturity shines as her narration acknowledges and forgives Hannah’s blackmail and abuse while she comforts Hannah. “Everyone affected by war, captivity, or oppression reacts differently—and away from it, people might try to guess how they would act, or react, in the circumstances. But they do not really know,” writes Heather Morris.
