Orion's Dawn by Robert C. James

2.0

I was sent a free copy of this book to review. It wasn't very good. There were bits that were OK but there were just too many characters and not enough happening. As the first part of a serial it's supposed to make me want to keep reading and it absolutely doesn't. There's no clear protagonist (or perhaps too many protagonists) and no hook. All we know by the end of the book is that there is a mysterious alien artefact, but that's certainly not novel enough to be a draw.

The chapters centred on Jason Cassidy (the only character whose name I remember - and I just read the book within the last 24 hours) are OK. There could be an interesting story there. But there wasn't enough of it. I'm not invested. And that's about it. I just don't care enough to ever read another word of it. Maybe once it's finished it might be an idea to go back and editing it into a proper novel, and then it might be worth reading. Maybe.
