wow. I have to re-read The Idiot, because I didn't like it when I read it for the first time but I was in high school so maybe I didn't fully understand it. reading Either/Or in college just made so much sense and felt so so real. Selin is always caught up in her readings and often projects the readings onto her own life, making analytical comparisons. This is exactly how I act (as a Berkeley student taking 2 comp lit classes in one semester)!! I am always comparing my life to the texts I am reading and the lectures I've listened to on said readings. I understand Selin's anxiety so much better now and I get the way she talks objectively. The character just makes so much more sense now that I am also in college.
