Tales from Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan

5.0

A stunning new book from Shaun Tan. I loved The Arrival which has previously been a Comic Book Of The Month from Page 45. Whilst that told one story with no words, Tales From Outer Suburbia tells several with varying amounts of prose.

Some stories were actual comics, frames with text and images, some were straight prose with illustrations on facing or following pages. Some stories were only 2 pages long where others were a dozen or more. Shaun Tan's continues to be hauntingly beautiful and totally captivating and his voice turns out to be just as wonderful.

The way he blended the normal and the fantastic was reminiscent of Neil Gaiman's short stories that I love so much. I remember as a write this that Stephen told me I'd love the book because it's Gaiman-esque when I collected it a month or two ago - he was right!

I loved every page, those with words and those without, and this is definitely one I'll want to re-read.
