Kingsbane by Claire Legrand

5.0

This will be a spoiler free review, as this book has not been released yet.

Kingsbane is the second book in the Empirium trilogy by Claire Legrand. It has action, adventure, twists and turns, and characters who are both lovable and lovely to hate. If you haven't read Furyborn and are reading this, I suggest that you go find the closest copy and bury your nose in it. Then come back.

I am absolutely in love with the world and story that Legrand has come up with! Furyborn was one of my favorite reads of 2018, and Kingsbane follows up as being my favorite read so far of 2019. The relationships that Legrand has composed in this story set is everything you didn't know you needed in your own life. The female characters have nothing but love for each other, and are not afraid to show it. The male characters are also unafraid of showing compassion and passion alike, and both genders are fierce and unforgiving.

There were also a lot of subtle similarities between what was happening with Rielle's timeline and Eliana's, and that was a bit jarring as you never knew how similar things would stay or how different they would go. It was something that kept me at the edge of my seat while picking out the subtleties.

I can't really say anymore without giving something away, so I will just say this. If you are a fan of fantasy, amazing magic systems, a story where the characters fight for what they believe is right, and a bit of romance, the Empirium trilogy installments are for you. Claire Legrand's writing is so easy to get sucked into, and the story is entirely engaging. And it will leave you with all the feels in the world at the end of both books.

Kingsbane to be released on May 21, 2019.
