Beyond the Wand: The Magic & Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard by Tom Felton

emotional funny informative lighthearted reflective fast-paced

5.0

As a person who grew up reading the HP books and watching the HP movies, I knew I wanted to read Tom Felton’s book to see how the HP universe impacted him as a child actor.

The book starts with the most hilarious story of him as a young teenager attempting to steal an adult video from his local HMV 😂

Tom shares antics he did that paralleled a friend of mine who was regularly told he looks like Draco. Tom shares the funny, the emotional, and the low points of growing up in the HP universe.

Draco and Tom have such different upbringings even though Tom did such a fantastic job depicting Draco in the movies. It even tracks that Tom hadn’t bothered to read the books before auditioning for a role in the movies.

If you’re looking for a generally light-hearted memoir, pick this one up.

Aside: I would like to say that in no way do I endorse the thoughts and viewpoints of the HP author. I do however believe that the stories belong to the readers of the books and the watchers of the movies, not the backwards thinking of the author.
