“If Half the Country was Sinking Into the Sea, I Might Care, But Only Enough to Make Sure I Was on the Part That Sinks”
Melancholic undertones from start to finish exploring grief and the sudden changes life brings unplanned to our doorsteps. It’s a very down-to-earth, slice of life between two women just doing their best in less-than-idealistic circumstances. They fight, they mourn, they enjoy their time together and bring in family outside of themselves.
It’s a lovely read with a consistent tone and voice.
Short and a brilliant representation of living despite loss, the slower pace lets you sit and digest what is being said. It would have been nice to see the perspective shift to another character to explore Marge outside of the grief-filled lenses, or include snippets that expressed more of her personality in the voice she used.
