The Ice Palace by Tarjei Vesaas

5.0

A very complex story about two girls in elementary school that leaves as more questions than answers. This is the first book I’ve read by a Norwegian author, and I would love to read more. The description of snow and ice was especially beautiful, and I was surprised to find myself wanting to be in winter just to experience these sensations again. Not a dense novel as far as speed goes, but there is a lot of depth. The characters are all very seclusive, and I’m not even sure we really get to know any of them but that’s also part of what makes this such an interesting read. Definitely good to pick up when you’re looking for something light to read that also challenges the way you see people and nature.
