House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

At first I was apprehensive about picking this up because of its size and the fact that TOG hadn't been wowing me recently. But I gave it a go and I freaking loved it. Yes sure, it may not be a completely new story and sometimes predictable, but honestly, I found it super entertaining. The low key enemy to lovers trope, the best friends inseparable even after bad things happen trope, the every body is drop dead gorgeous trope, I'm a sucker for it. Don't go into this wanting some brand spanking new ideas... go into this with the desire to just be carried along.

I'm finding it hard to articulate my thoughts because, if I'm being completely honest with you, I don't fully know WHY I enjoyed this so much. Tropes yes... but what was it that kept me reading cover to cover?! 816 pages read within 24 hours; I don't even know how I did that!! It was the first book in a while that had me reading well past my bed time and kept me straining my eyes for more, when clearly I needed to sleep. The next morning, I didn't even eat breakfast, just ate the last half of the book instead! I should mention though, that I had the ebook version, which I do think helped me not feel overwhelmed by seeing the physical amount of pages that were left.
