Zora Books Her Happy Ever After by Taj McCoy

Did not finish book. Stopped at 6%.
Only got through the first chapter and I just can't. So. Many. Descriptions.

In this first chapter, we meet the main character as she starts her day at the bookstore she owns. At the end of the day, she has dinner with her grandmother, takes a shower, and talks with her friend/roommate before the charter ends.

In that time we get descriptions of all of their breakfast beverages and food, but that's normal. When she gets home though! We get a description of both her and her grandmother's house doors. Hey grandmother cooks dinner and we get a very detail play-by-play while they have a conversation. I'm talking a list of all the spices she puts into the dish, that she washes the lettuce, that she puts the shrimp into the heated pan. It stands out more in audiobook form because you can't skim. Seriously though, I felt like I was listening to someone narrate a cookbook.

Then she goes to take a shower, and we get the details of the color of the headband she uses to tie her hair back with, that she has a teak bench that she uses to shave her legs or sometimes sits on to steam (neither of which she's doing in this shower), etc.

There's just too much unnecessary details on things that aren't relevant. I wish an editor would have pushed back and cleaned this up a bit more, because I just cruised reviews to see if it would get better but it's a complaint others had. Oh well.
