Strange, surreal, and captivating. Perfume is perhaps the best book I've read this year. Beautifully written, almost delicately, the translation was so lovely I want to read this in German one day should I ever learn it. This book is about scents and how scent influences us in our daily lives and the way we interact with others. Is our personal scent a marker of our humanity? Conversely, is the lack of a scent a sign of one's inhumanity? I've never before smelt another person but this book has me questioning the way I think about scent.
