Starling House by Alix E. Harrow

adventurous dark emotional mysterious sad tense fast-paced

4.5

Stunning is the word that comes to mind when I think about describing this book. A true gothic tale with darkness, romance, and fantasy told in a beautifully lyrical manner. I could SEE Starling House and the beasts prowling. I could FEEL the deep emotions reverberating off every page. I was drawn in and unable to look away. Themes that brought me back to my days of classic literature are woven into this masterpiece of new gothic fiction. Highly recommend!

Something to note, and why it's a 4.5✨️ for me:
Starling House was hyped big on bookstagram, and I initially started this on my Kindle when my library hold came in. Unfortunately, I could not get into it - as in I let my hold lapse after trying and trying. I was determined, though, so I decided to check it out on audio. It was a startling difference, and I was instantly hooked. I think, for me, I needed to listen so I could paint a better picture as this novel went on.
