Poppy and Alex are complete opposites. Poppy is outgoing, bubbly, and has extreme wanderlust. Alex is reserved, studious, and would rather be at home with a book. After a shared car ride back to Ohio from college where they learn they could not be more different, a friendship blossomed. Poppy ends up leaving Ohio to go to New York, whereas Alex stays in the Midwest. Still, every summer they take a vacation together someplace new. That is, until two years ago after a trip to Croatia. They haven’t talked since. Poppy talks Alex into one more trip, where she decides to make everything right again. Of course, everything that could go wrong does during this trip— from the broken AC in their room in the desert, to back spasms, and a flat tire. Poppy will do anything to keep Alex, even hiding her true feelings for him.
Gosh this was SO cute. The best friends to lovers slow burn was EXCELLENT. This book definitely gave me When Harry Met Sally vibes and upon finishing the book I learned that was Emily Henry’s inspiration.
This book had everything I wanted— angst, passion, characters I loved, and of course romance! The slow burn killed me, I kept finding myself wishing they would just kiss already! The “will-they, won’t-they” was exquisite 🙌
Tropes- best friends to lovers, one bed, taking care of someone when sick, mutual pining, opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine
