The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

5.0

Oh my goodness best last line of a book ever. I can’t wait to start book two.

As always, N.K. Jemisin is a masterful world builder. Her characters are rich and full and vibrant and you really feel for them from start to finish. You can easily visualize the scenes, no matter what strange new terms or creatures are introduced.

This book unfolds beautifully, letting you discover and understand new layers in perfect time, new meanings and epiphanies at ideal intervals. It doesn’t feel rushed or choppy or … any of that. Obviously her words exceed mine here. I don’t want to reveal any of what unfolds so I find my words limited but it just goes so perfectly. I find myself reminded of the skill and awe I felt reading Dune and Wheel of Time - just epic scope and ohhhh wow we’re going there with each new revelation. It is That Grand. These will last the ages.
