This is Science Fiction done properly!! We follow Cee, a girl with amnesia, stuck on an abandoned island, with the knowledge she must find her sister. The other perspective is from the sister, Kasey, as she navigates life without Cee. I utterly adored this. I devoured every last second and was left in distress when I realized there was nothing else to read. Some twists will leave you frozen! My only qualm is this weirdly transphobic line at the start of the novel: “I kicked him in the balls but he didn’t even flinch. Maybe he wasn’t a boy at all.” Cis authors, please stop writing the genitalia=gender discourse into your novels. It makes you look like a bad ally at best and transphobic at worst. I truly hope this was just Joan He being a cis person who thought nothing more of the line because I adore this book and would hate for my love of it to be ruined by finding out she is transphobic. In conclusion, I think this book is 100% worth your time! I do wish we had some queer rep, and that Kasey was on page Autistic, but this was still fun and compelling!!
