Sometimes when I’m making soup, I find myself thinking that I should add just one more ingredient, and then I find myself adding another, and then another, and then all of a sudden there are about 14 different things going on in the soup. Sometimes this works really well and I end up with a, non-replicable marvel, and sometimes it just ends up tasting like the color brown. I had really high hopes for this novel, which like my soups, has a lot of great things going on. I love lesbians. I love Science Fiction. I love a thriller with the occult element. I love necromancy and magic. I love when main characters weirdly use a lot of 21st century slang. The unfortunate part of this book is that it’s just so complicated for no good reason. While in some ways, the elements work really well together, I think because there is so much going on nothing ends up being super well developed in the world building. Also the fact that every single character has about four different names makes it really hard to know what’s going on and the pacing is kind of bizarre. For how many lesbians there are in this book there is no actual lesbian
