Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay

2.0

I liked the content of this novel more than its format. The premise is really strong: a horror movie made 30 years ago had a mysterious tragedy run through the whole cast and crew and today the sole survivor is a part of an attempted re-boot of the film. The story alternates between the accounts of that survivor today and the first table read of the titular script-within-the-script. I think that the intentionally strange and vague structure of the film made it hard to follow as the narrative jumped in and out too frequently when it would have been better served with more anticipation and revealed all at once. The author stuck the landing in the end but by the time I got there I had lost a personal sense of investment in the storyline.
