I reread this after loving the series in my adolescence.
Upon reading it again, the writing for the first 1/3 of the book was pretty unbearably bad, but given that Paolini was just a kid when he wrote Eragon, I have to cut him some slack despite the laughable moments and very CLEAR "inspiration*"  from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and other fantasy/sci fi legends of the time of writing this.
However, Eragon is the first fantasy for young adult audiences of it's time and I have a lot of respect for it. The world building is a bit comical at points and Eragon himself is an arrogant little prick but overall the story is enjoyable, emotionally provocative, fun, and an instant classic. I can't wait to continue the series and watch how Paolini grows as an author and person as the series goes on.
