The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
3.0
This was really interesting. I'm a little confused as to why everyone says there are a ton of twists in this book, because I didn't find them all that surprising. Maybe I had kind of figured it out, but it didn't feel all that "twisty" to me, just a bit of a reveal.
Some of the characters I didn't care much for, even toward the end. I don't think I was blown away by this like other people were because if I'm honest, I'm not totally sure I want to keep reading. It wasn't bad, obviously, but I don't feel so close to the characters that I'm dying to know how their stories continue. It feels a bit like The Will of the Many to me--while I find the world interesting, I don't have a huge connection to the characters. Though the characters in this are far more interesting than they were in Islington's work (and they aren't huge Mary Sues like his were).
