Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer

5.0

I don’t think I know the words to describe how beautiful and life changing this book is. It brought me so much joy to read, and helped restore my faith in humanity. The prose as genuinely a work of art. The imagery of nature was so vivid, I felt instantly transported there. I also couldn’t help but admire the author and how she put herself out there for this book. She shared vulnerable times in her life, and her touching personal experiences. It was one of the best reading experiences I have every had. I also learned so much about plants and Indigenous history and practices. Yet I never overwhelmed by scientific information. It was all delivered in a digestible way through the author’s experiences and beautiful prose. I also appreciated how the author balanced science, personal belief, and Indigenous faith. She made it clear that no one approach had all the answers, but that something important could be learned from each. I also liked how the book was organized with sweetgrass. So overall, this book was so incredible and I highly recommend!
