Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado

5.0

Haunting and difficult and sometimes to the bone. Talking with my coworkers about Machado’s stories, we were each struck and arrested by different ones. For me, “Inventory” and “Real Women Have Bodies” left me shaken. “The Husband Stitch” hurt. Another coworker found a dark mirror in “The Resident,” and another in “Eight Bites.” They each burned with a different facet of what we live with every day, women, embodied.
