The Crane Husband by Kelly Barnhill
4.0
I picked this up at my aunt's used bookstore after hearing rave reviews about it prior to its release. It was certainly an interesting read and reminded me a lot of T Kingfisher's writing style (who I love!).
It is quite an odd tale, unnerving at times and there is a sense of dread throughout. Which, is the author's goal. It has an almost Grimm tale feel to it that touches over domestic violence and depression. It is a sad and troubling story. I didn't love this book for that reason, but the retelling and author's style was great.
I think this is one I'll be thinking about for some time.
