The Swerve: How The Renaissance Began by Stephen Greenblatt

3.0

Stephen Greenblatt is a hero who got me through so much of both my degrees but this was quite meh for me. I love a story of cause and effect, and I love an accessible <300 page nonfic, but this felt like it spent 180 pages setting up the context for the point he was trying to make, and then the remaining 80 rattling through the consequences. Also felt like comparable case studies could be done on other Classical texts, but W/e. A good accessible explainer on Lucretius regardless, who’s work is absolutely impenetrable.
