We follow a reopened cold case. A young girl left the town she was studying in to return to her hometown and disappeared without a trace. The original investigation felt negligent (not sharing essential information or not interviewing people who knew the victim) no matter how much the book described the cops in charge as thorough. The ongoing investigation felt very convenient and was not thrilling. I figured out the culprit rather quickly.
The narration was okay, but the dialogue felt unnatural like it was spelt out for the reader, and the dialogue tags felt off sometimes.
I was disappointed. It was my first novel from the author, and in either series, I don’t think I will pick any other instalment.
