This book follows Dillon & Cade, who meet at 13 when their parents start dating. The first 60ish% of this book felt more YA cuteness to me and I think the way the relationship between these two developed into their later teens and romantically was really sweet, felt authentic and the author handled the exploratory aspects of two teens falling in love and their chemistry well and it felt appropriate for the ages of the characters.

However, my overall enjoyment of the book suffered when we got to Cades Dad, his reaction, and the subsequent consequences for both Cade & Dillon. As even though I know people in the LGBTQIA+ community face reactions like these or worse by their family members there was something about the way it was written here that came across to me as overly dramatised/bad soap opera acting if that makes sense? And you're telling me there was no way Dillion or Cade could have gotten messages to the other through a friend or something?! In this day and age I think not and Cades reaction and attitude towards Dillon because of it all just felt off and drama for the sake of drama which cheapened the experience the author was trying to convey for me.

Overall, I liked this book, but it didn't hit quite the way I thought it would given my enjoyment of the first half. This was my first book by this author, and I will definitely give another of their books a try. 🌶🌶
