The Pumpkin Eater by Penelope Mortimer

4.0

I nodded. I was worrying about the milk, about my children falling in love, about the creatures who crawled through the dark towards us, their ancestors, their loving assassins, breathing 'Why' like a cold wind. 'Yes,' I said. 'I worry a bit about the mik.'
'And what do you do about it?'
'Nothing.' I said.

Might upgrade to 5 if this sticks with me a bit longer. I'm a sucker for these "disillusioned wife assumed mad" novels - Yellow Wallpaper, Awakening etc. This book is heavy on dialogue but it was so well written I didn't care. Haven't made my mind up on the ending yet. This book has convinced me we should reintroduce 'beastly' back into the general vernacular for talking about men's behaviour.
