This book knocked me out! The "about the author" on the book jacket says that she likes to "give voice to complex, broken people" and that is exactly what she did with this book. The characters were very authentic and real. It was compelling, intriguing and thought-provoking. Braden's thoughts and feelings were so intimate and surprisingly relatable. The book was well-developed from the baseball analogies, to the way Braden's faith was complex and layered, and the relationships and interactions between the characters. This book is poignant, devastating, and thought-provoking. As I read it I didn't know what I was rooting for. It's definitely one that will stay with you. I want others to read so we can discuss it. I just cannot say enough good things about this book. I hope she writes more books because I am definitely a fan.

There is some foul language but I excuse it because it works in the context. I also love that it's a book that males and females would both enjoy.

"Faith always makes more sense when you can look back later on, but when you're in a bad place you don't know that's not where your story ends"
