The American Queen by Vanessa Miller

5.0

This novel is a fictional yet rich retelling based on the actual life of the sole Queen known to have reigned on American soil, Louella Bobo Montgomery. A story of resilience and perseverance at a time where Black Americans were hoping against hope. It highlights the importance of unity and collective effort when faced with adversity. This story of triumph over tragedy, spanning the years 1865 to 1889, is one that should be well known moment of Black history.

Thank you to author, Vanessa Miller, for undertaking this labor of love and gifting readers such as myself with the opportunity to learn of Queen Louella who has made an indelible mark on my life and heart. I highly recommend The American Queen to readers who enjoy historical fiction with strong, character-driven narratives.
