The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

As most millennials I found this story from the twinkley and starkly dark film adaption that has always left the feeling of brushing my hair mixed with the scent of artificial strawberry and the gnawing sense of melancholy. The film became a touchstone for me through my teenage years and into early adulthood. I finally decided to tackle the book which I thought would be like flying too close to the sun, how could anything top the remarkable film that’s lived with me for so long. The book is beyond compare and getting to experience the plight of the Lisbon girls this intimately and fully is something that will stick with me the same way watching it I fold did. Calling this a favorite seems off but in any regard it’s one that I wouldn’t part with for the world.
