Rhyme and his protégé, Amelia Sachs, are on the hunt for a notoriously ghost of a killer - the Coffin Dancer, named for a unique tattoo he has on one arm. Rhyme has gone up against him before, and he lost two of his forensic techs. This time, the killer is after three federal witnesses, and Rhyme and Sachs and their team must do everything they can to keep them alive for several days so they can testify.

We get more of Lincoln and Amelia, with their increasingly complicated relationship. There are a few really tense personal moments that I don't quite know how i feel about still. But we also have a cast of secondaries who I rather like - especially the female pilot, Percy.

Very interesting, I love learning more about forensics and how they've changed. I was definitely surprised by a twist near the end, and felt that the entire thing was pretty well done. There are a few things that date it a little (it was published in 1998) - namely some technology (which I find interesting), a few terms (things that might not necessarily be PC anymore), etc. I didn't like some of the fat-shaming I've seen, but it also very much dates the books in my eyes, but otherwise this is just a very enjoyable series thus far.
I have an admitted weakness for some of the crime thrillers I grew up on - Alex Cross, Kay Scarpetta, and now a couple others I've been dipping my toes into. This included!

I liked Jeff Harding SO MUCH more than the previous narrator in The Bone Collector. Good choice! Very like.

A slightly dated but still thrilling mystery, that I think anyone who likes crime/detective thrillers with complicated characters will enjoy.
