Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

4.5

Reread Completed 4/22/24 | 4.5 stars
I decided to reread DARK MATTER this year because I don't do a lot of rereads anymore and I honestly remembered almost nothing about the book. I remembered a scene in the beginning and that was it... oops.

This was an excellent reread, especially not remembering how literally anything went. It's a little embarrassing at how little I could recall about this book, but hey, it was like reading a new book all over again! This had been my first Blake Crouch book and I didn't know what to expect from his writing style, vibes, or topics. Now that I've read a whole bunch of his stuff AND already knowing that I liked the book, I went into my reread with good expectations and low pressure.

There is a little bit of science that still goes over my head, but it wasn't as intense as I remembered it being. I had a really great time getting into the science, kind of knowing what I was getting into. Even if the science is overwhelming for a reader, there's still a ton of action and heart that goes into this book and there's still plenty for readers to enjoy!

The multiverse concept was really intense and I loved all of the different ways that this came together. There were a lot of different elements explored, from going into a multiverse, all of the different possibilities, how it's possible, different version of Jason, and so much more. There was a lot that really made this book really exciting!

I also didn't remember how it ended at all so that was interesting to see how everything wrapped up in the end. I've very happy I did a reread and I wasn't planning on it, but I'll probably reread RECURSION now too.

Initial Impressions 7/17/18 & Review posted on The Book Addict's Guide 5/16/19: DARK MATTER was a little different than I thought I’d be but it was so cinematic and entertaining with an excellent sci-fi thread! I was expecting it to be more psychological and almost a little scary like a thriller and it was much more sci-fi and alternate universe, which I also love. The book went through an number of different scenarios and changed tone a few times, still consistent with the Book’s overall tone but adapting with what the characters had experience and changing so we could follow what would happen next.

The audiobook was also highly entertaining and I was engaged the whole time! I think because of my expectations I was looking for some particular thrill in there but I really did enjoy it from start to finish, and I also really enjoyed Blake Crouch’s writing style! There was a lot of great story there and the details all felt pertinent.
