Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans at War by Mary Roach

adventurous dark funny hopeful informative inspiring lighthearted reflective sad medium-paced

4.0

Mary Roach takes her tour of oddball scientific specialties to possibly the most scientifically advanced entity in the world, the U.S. military. She explores various subjects such as shark repellent, diarrhea, military clothing, and genital transplants. As with her other books her writing ranges from funny, to morbid, to flat out gross. I wouldn’t say you need to have an interest in the military to enjoy this book; many of the things we take for granted must be viewed in a different way for their (and our) safety. Anyone with a scientifically curious mind will enjoy Roach’s writing and delight in the esoteric.
