Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

7/1/18 - I think my feelings for this book has changed and will be unhauling it which is the reason I cleared my rating. Though I'm leaving my original review and thoughts up.

Okay I originally heard of this series when my friend recommended it to me when we were at Barns & Noble a couple years ago and when I read the synopsis I knew it was something I felt I would love! I finally got around to buying it a few months ago and after reading a few books I wanted to get out of the way, I finally started this. In that time I had heard a lot of good reviews but lately just people who didn't like it, because of a lot of negative reviews I was just nervous to dive into the story. Well to say the least I REALLY enjoyed this book! Any book that gives me any intense emotion whether that be sadness, happiness, etc. for the story is a good book in my opinion and I definitely got that intense emotion with this. This book brought me to tears multiple times and just overall broke my heart in the best possible way. I was really drawn into the story at first and wanted to read more, but at the same time I was still kind of iffy about it. When I read high fantasy it kind of throws me off when I see modern type things like light bulbs, elevators, and things like that. I much prefer fantasy books set in a sort of medieval type world, if that makes any sense? This felt quite a lot like a more dystopian world so I wasn't a huge fan of it at first but as I continued on it all blended together really nicely and it fit the story very well. I also was expecting the sort of love triangle going on to really bother me, but it really didn't at all and it all turned out a lot more different then I was expecting to my surprise. It was very much a case of me starting to ship one pair and then one of them does something and you're just like ABSOLUTELY not. I really started growing attached to these characters as well, even minor ones we didn't see that often. I was surrounded in this world and I really started to feel the pain and sorrow for what they were all going through, or even the little spot of hope they would feel when a certain thing would happen.

I'm not even sure if this review made sense but all you need to know is that I very much enjoyed this book. I'm still a little nervous to start the sequel, just because of more negative reviews I've heard but I'm still really excited to see where this story goes.
