This was an interesting look into a time of sailing and sword-fighting. I'd compare it to The Mask of Zorro and Pirates of the Caribbean - not completely historically accurate but entertaining nonetheless. Gabby was able to get away with a lot, being a woman in a time where men had all the adventures. Unlike many books with strong female characters, her parents were understanding and actually encouraged her to learn how to defend herself and to take risks. It was refreshing.
