The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O'Neill
4.0
I'd been wanting to read this book for so long. I read my first O'Neill more than 10 years ago, and I wanted to find her magical writing again. This book is a beautifully written tragedy. I really love discovering Montreal -a dirty, thrashy, gangstery Montréal - through O'Neill's words. We rarely hear about the city this way.
It took me a while to get through it. I think I struggled to get through the first two-thirds because I anticipated an inevitable undoing and I couldn't let myself have hope for Rose and Pierrot.
A mesmerizing read all the same.
