It's very good, but I can't read any more of it. I should know by now that "brilliant and important" rarely translates to enjoyable. I just can't handle that much misery. I have small children and need to believe that I live in a world that's fundamentally a good and meaningful place to be. Even if you tried to tell me that the book has a happy ending for Romy, there's no way it could have a happy ending for everyone else in the prison, everyone else in the book, everyone else in the neighbourhoods she's from... It's just too much for me. I'm tapping out, halfway through. But it is truly an excellent book.
