I have a soft spot for revenge stories. It's not unusual why, there's so much unfairness in the world, so much injustice. Especially when cases like rape, sexual harassment, and domestic abuse are concered. And there are always those kind of enraging cases. So, reading a fictional book with a smart, kickass, capable woman who takes justice into her own hands, is a cathartic experience.
They Never Learn is a well-written, engrossing, wickedly fun, suspenseful book it's hard to put down. Literally, I read it in one day. The characters are interesting, complex, messy, and well-rounded, fully fleshed, maddening. It's so easy to root for the protagonist, and so easy to wish the death on her victims. Most of the book I spent chanting: kill him, kill him, kill him, where "him" can be replaced by any number of male characters. And on top of it all this book is sapphic with a truly great ship. Which I did not expect from this book, I'll admit.
If you like revenge stories, thrillers, serial killers and monstrous women, this is a definite recommendation.
