This is what a modern-day slasher looks like. This is what a modern-day "final girl" looks like. Gone are the days of pretty, white girl virgins--innocent until the very end. Give me a gothic, American Indian, hilarious, chaotic, bad-ass 17 year-old every day! Now, by no means get rid of the traditional tropes of slashers--we still need traditional elements, but this book gives you a glimpse of how you take the traditional tropes and marry it with something fresh. I wish this could be adapted into a film--it played like a movie in my head while I was reading it, and I'd love to see this story come to life. Anxious to read the second book in the trilogy, and I may or may not have pre-ordered the third. More reason why we need more diversity in Horror. Well done!
I'd love to know how people interpretated the ending...? I was happy for an unclean ending, that left you thinking. Intrigued how the second installment will be, and if there will be any lose ties cleared up.
