A Likely Story by Leigh Abramson was a chill read. It was very character-based, if you like. I thought that the characters were very realistic in that they were not all too great people, but you wanted to root for them to be better. I certainly cared about them, and the detail that went into fleshing them out was so well done.
The story as a whole was very laidback, very slow-paced. If you like that sort of thing, definitely add this book to your TBR. It was written in third person, multi POV and had short chapters (always a positive for me). It included excerpts of a novel within the pages -- a book within a book situation. I loved the main character, and not just because her name and publishing aspirations were eerily similar to mine.
Read if you like:
x Books about writing / bookception
x Best friends to lovers subplot
x Plot twists & characters who seem contrary to what they are
x Short, multi POV chapters
That being said, all of the elements were there, and by all means, I did enjoy the book, but I think the only element that made it hard to sit and read it in one sitting was its pacing. I have a quick-set mind, and so slower books are hard to sit with.
Thank you so much to Atria Books for an advanced reader copy.
