Playground by Aron Beauregard

dark emotional sad fast-paced
It's hard for me to give a star rating to a book like this, so I won't.

I actually enjoyed this book. I'm going through stuff and extreme horror has been a great escape for me. I go into an extreme horror expecting it to be super over the top, sick, and grisly and this absolutely delivered.
I found the metaphors and analogies to be funny and endearing, and it felt like the book was a love letter to the 90s. I really enjoyed way the children were written; they actually felt like kids instead of mini adults and reacted as such. I also liked that it was a full length novel since extreme horror is typically 100 page novellas with the moments of disgust woven into the character building to keep it engaging. I thought the games were really fucked up and interesting and how it continued to raise the bar for "how much worse can this get."
