The Mysteries by Lisa Tuttle
4.0
I really liked this - I decided to track down more Lisa Tuttle books after reading 'My Death'. This book definitely has some similar themes. It's basically a detective/private eye mystery with supernatural elements. The main plot elements are woven together with mythological snippets from throughout history. I thought the weaving of the stories was well done, both the additional stories, and the way the main story was sectioned and revealed at appropriate moments. I really like the way Tuttle engages with the fantasy elements she builds, and the descriptions she uses. Fantasy bits can still be matter-of-fact and bleak, while 'real' elements can feel lush and special, depending on what suits the occasion. An enjoyable read.
