Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean
5.0
I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars!
I love love loved this book, the story and especially our main characters, Hattie and Whit.
Hattie is a big girl in a society that doesn’t appreciate her beauty and who she is. She turns 29 in the beginning of the book and has decided this is the year where she takes her life into her own hands. I loved Hattie a lot because, yes she did have insecurities about her body and her looks but that didn’t define her. It is a main theme because back in those days, a woman’s “role” in life was to marry well and have children so she had to face those issues. But my girl had a passion for business and she was going to have her own, no matter what. I loved that she had a passion she was working towards and wouldn’t let anyone stop her from pursuing them. Her character was witty, clever, passionate and brazen!
Whit has a past that he lets define him although he shouldn’t. His compassion, love and loyalty for the people he cares about is a defining feature of his. I loved his story and how he overcame many hardships throughout his life with his brother and sister. His past was heartbreaking and you could really feel for him through the words on the pages.
The chemistry between these two was sizzling, and sexy! The way the author described Hattie and Whit’s scenes together was chef’s kiss. I loved that they each brought out something in each other that wasn’t there before. I love loved the emphasis on their relationship being about equals and being in partnership. That they would stand on the same footing and take care of the other when they needed it. I loved when Hattie told Whit that she didn’t need him to protect her, that she needed him to stand next to her. It’s so good.
Please read this book if you want a historical romance with sizzling chemistry, a good story and good plus size rep!
