Wonderful book. A unique poetic retelling of the Odyssey through its female characters, These Great Athenians is evocative and enchanting. The fascinating women adorning the travels of Odysseus take centre stage, and their psyche is explored through free verse poetry which is as accessible as it is powerful. I kept imagining how it could be adapted as a play or a musical in the vein of Six or Cats, where characters get to present themselves through a monologue and don’t interact until the end. It was a refreshing read, even for someone like me who prefers novels and prose in general.
