I enjoyed learning about Jessie Redmon Fauset, a key contributor to the Harlem Renaissance. Even though this is a Historical Fiction, it was great seeing how artists like Langston Hughes and Countee Cullen became the names to watch for during that era.

At the heart of the book is Jessie's work at The Crisis and her relationship with W. E. B. Du Bois, the founder of The Crisis and one of the founders of the NAACP.

While I did enjoy many aspects of the book, it was tough as a reader to see Jessie's relationship with W. E. B. because he wasn't a likeable character in the book.

Overall, I loved reading about a Black woman forging her own path at a time when the odds were really against a Black woman finding such literary success.
